Found abundantly in the Savanna grass lands, the meerkats are one of the smaller predatory animals of Africa. meerkats belong to the mongoose family but unlike the mangoose, they live in larger groups of more thatn one family. A group generally consists of 20 meerkats although some market families on have up to 50 members. One feet tall neerkats are often seen dotting the savannas sitting on their lind legs with their noses in the air. They only go outside during the any time. Meerkats are dangerous prodators as they always attack in groups. Their alertness and speed help them to catch prey like lizards, hugs, rodents and other small animals. Meerkats live in burrows withtunnels within which they form underground colonies. Meerkats are not considered threatened or endange red. But they live a very difficult life in the African desert, constantly threatened by hungry predators rival meerkats, draught and burrow-flooding rainstorms.
