When ethanoic acid reacts with sodium bi carbonate or sodium carbonate, it forms salt water and release carbon dioxide gas which have brisk effervescence. Also ethanoic acid turns blue litmus red.
I) litmus paper test -blue to redII) sodium carbonate test – formation of brisk effervescence III) esterification reaction – sweet smell
CH₃COOH + C₂H₅OH →CH₃COOC₂H₅(ester) + H₂OIt will give sweet smell.
