Why magnesium does not react with cold water?
When we put mg in cold water it form the hydrogen layer on it so it can not react in cold water but burn in steam.

Because it becomes coated with magnesium hydroxide which is insoluble, so prevent water coming in contact with water.
Because magnesium becomes coated with Magnesium hydroxide which is insoluble, hence do not react with cold water.
