For centuries, these areas were controlled by rulers who were not Slavs.\tIntellectuals and scholars encouraged the Slavic people to share their passion, culture and identity. The first Pan-Slavic Congress was held in Prague in 1848.\tWith the break-up of Slavic states, this movement is considered defunct now.\xa0
