Monohybrid cross: Monohybrid cross is that cross which is made to study the inheritance of a single pair of genes or factors of a character. Through monohybrid cross experiments, Mendel proposed the Laws of Dominance and Law of segregation. For example, Tall stemmed plants are crossed with short stemmed plants. A new ratio of 3:1 is formed in the F2 generation. 75% individuals are dominant and 25% are recessive individuals.Dihybrid cross: It is a cross which involves the study of two pairs of genes or two characters. It is the experimentation of two characteristics with their four contrasting traits. For example, Round and Yellow are the two dominant characters, Wrinkled and Green are two recessive characters. Round yellow seed plants are crossed with wrinkled green seed plants in dihybrid inheritance. This produced new ratio of individuals 9:3:3:1. Through dihybrid inheritance, Mendel proposed a new law, Law of independent assortment. Other than dominant and recessive, new combinations are also found.
