Hydrogen resembles alkali metals. It combines with halogens oxygen and sulphur to form compounds having formulae similar to that formed by alkali metals. Also it exist as diatomic molecules and combines with metals as well as non metals to form covalent compounds. So the position of hydrogen in the modern periodic table is debated.
Hydrogen is said to resemblem both alkali metals and halogen.that is the reason why it is still anomalous.
