A Magnasium ribbon is cleaned to remove the protective layer of basic magnesium carbonate from its surface so that it may readily combine the oxygen of air.
Magnesium ribbon should be cleaned with sandpaper before burning in the air because of the following reasons :# magnesium very reactive element which rapidly reacts with oxygen in the air to form a white layer of magnesium oxide and this layer will not burn. # To remove the magnesium oxide layer from the ribbon which may prevent or slow down the burning of magnesium ribbon

It should be cleaned because when it placed open then it reacts with oxygen and makes magnesium oxide and due to which it does not burns so to burn it is cleaned
It should be cleand tk remoge magnesium oxide which gets firmed due to reacrion with oxygen and ut must be remkve bcz magnesium oxide is not reactive so we should remove it to do desirable reaction
To remove magnicium oxide

Magnesium ribbon is cleaned before burning to remove the layer of magnesium oxide or carbonate
Magnesium ribbon is cleaned before burning in order to remove the layer of basic magnesium oxide which is formed due to the slow action of moisture on it
Magnesium ribbon has a coating of \’magnesium oxide\’ and some impurities on its surface. MgO is formed by the slow action of moist air on it. So, Mg ribbon is cleaned with sand paper in oder to remove the layer of these oxides.

Waaah.. Khud ques.. Khud hi answer… Kya baat h..
Magnesium ribbon reacts with oxygen present in air to form a protective and inery layer of magnesium on its surface. This layer is unreactive and prevents the ribbon from burning. Hence,it needs to be cleaned with sand paper before burning in air.
Clean the magnesium ribbon about 2cm long by rubbing it with the sand paper. Burn the magnesium ribbon. The magnesium ribbon burns with a dazzling white light and changes into a white powder.
