Electromagnetic waves do not require a medium to travel through. This means that these waves can travel through solids, liquids, gases, and even space, which is a vacuum and has no matter. Electromagnetic waves include all the different types of waves on the electromagnetic spectrum, such as gamma rays, x-rays, ultraviolet waves, and even visible light.The reason why electromagnetic waves can travel through space is that they naturally keep themselves going. As denoted by the name, electromagnetic waves are both electric fields as well as magnetic fields. Literally, an electromagnetic wave is two waves that are traveling at 90 degrees or a right angle to each other. They are both oscillating together.
