Hydrogen gas is not evolved\xa0when a\xa0metal\xa0reacts with\xa0nitric acid. It\xa0is\xa0because\xa0HNO3 is\xa0a strong oxidising agent. It oxidises the\xa0H2\xa0produced to water and itself gets reduced to any of the nitrogen oxides (N2O,\xa0NO, NO2). But magnesium (Mg) and manganese (Mn) react with very dilute\xa0HNO3\xa0to\xa0evolve H2 gas.
