The main aim of the revolutionaries of Europe during the years following 1815 was a commitment to oppose monarchical forms of governance that had been established and to fight for liberty and freedom.NOTE – After Napoleon was defeated, conservatism as an ideology emerged in different regions of Europe. Conservative systems of governance were autocratic (monarch) in nature. They did not tolerate criticism and curbed the freedom of citizens. A wide range of censorship laws was also set in place, thus restricting the freedom of speech and expression of the common man. This injustice led to the emergence of the meaning and importance of freedom and liberty and the need to oppose the unjust rule of the monarch (autocratic).
