There were a few causes of resentment among the French people. Some of them are:# The war against Britain to make America independent resulted in the French monarchy accumulating a lot of debt. To overcome this, the government started levying additional taxes on the people.# Common people were hardly given any consideration. A person got position and/or privilege based on his lineage. This triggered resentment among common people.# While population kept rising, production of grains decreased or remained the same. As a result, many did not even get bread that was their staple food. Price of grain increased drastically while wages remained the same and insufficient to meet the requirement.
