We need a standard meridian because:1) To avid difference in time within the country.2) India has selected 82 Degree 30\’ East as its standard meridian because it passes centrally through India, hence equidistant from East to West.3) It is selected as a Prime Meridian to avoid time lag of 2 hours from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat. Its time is indian Standard Time(IST).
