\tA\xa0volcanic cone\xa0is a triangle-shaped\xa0hill\xa0formed as material from\xa0volcanic eruptions piles up around the\xa0volcanic vent, or opening in Earth’s\xa0crust. Most volcanic cones have one volcanic\xa0crater, or central\xa0depression, at the top. They are probably the most familiar type of volcanic\xa0mountain.\tA\xa0volcanic plateau\xa0is a\xa0plateau\xa0produced by\xa0volcanic activity. There are two main types: lava plateaus and pyroclastic plateaus.\tLava plateaus are formed by highly fluid (runny)\xa0basaltic\xa0lava during numerous successive eruptions through numerous vents without violent explosions (quiet eruptions).\xa0\tPyroclastic volcanic plateaus are produced by massive\xa0pyroclastic flows\xa0and they are underlain by\xa0pyroclastic rocks:\xa0agglomerates,\xa0tephra,\xa0volcanic ashes\xa0cemented into\xa0tuffs,\xa0mafic\xa0or\xa0felsic.
