Homologous Series\tA series of carbon compounds in which same functional group substitutes the hydrogen atom is called a homologous series.\tThese compounds have similar chemical properties due to the addition of same kind of functional group throughout the chain.\tFor example, the series of alkanes i.e. Methane, ethane, propane, butane and so on is a homologous series.

A homologous series may be defined as a family of organic compounds having the same functional group and similar chemical properties. The successive members of the series differ by a Ct group and 14 mass units. The individual members of a homologous series are called homologues and the phenomenon is called homology. All the members of a homologous series can be represented by a general formula. For example, the general formula of the homologous series of alkanes is C,H271+2 where ‘if is any positive integer. The member of a homologous series show a gradation in physical properties as the molecular mass increases. For exampk, the melting points and boilirg points increase with increasing molecular mass. Other physical properties like solubility in a particular solvent also show a similar gradation.

A homologous series is a series of carbon compound that have different numbers of carbon atoms but contain the same functional group ex. Methane ,propane , butane etc. Are all part of alkane homologous series
It is the series of compound with the same general formula.

Homologous series are those molecules with have same molecual formula but each compound differ by a unit In carbon it is CH2For ex CH3-CH2-CH3And CH3-CH2-CH2-CH3
A seies of hydrocarbons in which the succeeding element differs by ch2 group
