Urea\xa0is produced from the conversion of ammonia. Ammonia comes from the breakdown of amino\xa0acids\xa0which can be dangerous if too much ammonia is\xa0in the\xa0body.\xa0Uric acid\xa0is produced from\xa0purines\xa0in foods after it has been digested.\xa0Urea\xa0is made in the liver and excreted in urine. The\xa0urea\xa0cycle utilizes five intermediate steps, catalyzed by five different enzymes, to convert ammonia to\xa0urea. Birds, reptiles, and insects, on the other hand, convert toxic ammonia to\xa0uric acid\xa0instead of\xa0urea.
