It protects and supports the body. The cells are loosely spaced and embedded in an intercellular matrix.
Tissue that supports, protects, and gives structure to other tissues and organs in the body .
Connective tissue helps in binding , supporting , protecting ,transporting substances in the body .There are three types of connective tissues : loose connective tissue ,areolar connective tissue, reticular tissue .It is made up of three main components cells ,protein fibre, extracellular matrix .

Connective tissue is the binding and supporting tissue of the animal body. Matrix forms the main bulk of this tissue. The cells are loosely spaced and less in number. The matrix may be jelly like, fluid, dense or rigid. The nature of matrix differs in concordance with the function of the particular connective tissue.Types of connective Tissues:\tFluid connective tissue (Blood) – Blood is a fluid connective tissue. It is composed of plasma, platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells. It plays a significant role in the process of transportation of substances within the body. The plasma contains proteins, salts and hormones. Blood flows and transports gases, digested food, hormones and waste materials to different parts of the body.\tBone – Bone is very strong and non-flexible tissue. It is porous, highly vascular, mineralized, hard and rigid. Its matrix is made up of proteins, and rich in salts of calcium and magnesium. It forms the framework that supports the body. It also anchors the muscles and supports the main organs of the body.\tLigaments – These are elastic structures which connect bone to bone. It has great strength but contains very little matrix. \tTendons – Tendons are cord-like, strong, inelastic structures that join muscles to bones. They have limited flexibility.\tCartilage – Cartilage is specialized connective tissue which is compact and less vascular. It has widely spaced out cells. Its matrix is composed of proteins and sugars, and is slightly hardened by calcium salts. Cartilage smoothens bone surfaces at joints and is also present in the nose, ear, trachea and larynx.\tAreolar connective tissue – It is the simplest and most widely distributed connective tissue. It is found between the skin and muscles, around blood vessels and nerves and in the bone marrow. It fills the space inside the organs, supports internal organs and helps in repair of tissues.
