Mitosis\xa0is a process where a single cell divides into two identical daughter cells (cell division).\xa0Meiosis\xa0is a process where a single cell divides twice to produce four cells containing half the original amount of genetic information.\xa0Mitosis\xa0results in two nuclei that are identical to the original nucleus.\xa0Meiosis, on the other hand, results in four nuclei that each has ½ the chromosomes of the original cell. In animals,\xa0meiosis\xa0only occurs in the cells that give rise to the *** cells (gametes), i.e., the egg and the sperm.
