WRITE THE PEN PORTAIT OF MR VAN DANN
Pride or vanity is reason that drives man to move ahead of others ensuing ego. The character of Mrs. Packletide was very selfish and greedy for more. Saki portrays her vain ambition of outshining Loona Bimberton which entails her shame, embarrassment, and financial loss. She is left with nothing but regret and remorse. The writer has beautifully underlined the point that vain people like her don\’t get anything useful in their lives. Even their endeavours are vain and bear no sweet fruit. On the contrary, they have to bear loss on all fronts. So, our character should be sans vanity or pride. As it is rightly observed that a flames bulges and blows bright before it tapers off. Some ethics and moral values should be nurtured to dissuade us from vain pursuits as a major portion of human beings suffer from the ill of being vain. One should realise that pride is bound to meet frustration and dejection.

Wise men have rightly said, \’Pride goes before a fall.\’ Similarlyvanity, like pride is bound to meet frustration and dejection. Life is aglorious gift meant to be pursued for higher pursuits such as self-improvement,self-actualization, and serving the suffering humankind. Where is the time forvain pursuits in such a competitive world? But unfortunately a major portion ofhuman beings suffer from the ill of being vain. They waste their time, money, energies and other resources almost all their life later on to realize thefutility of it. The best example that shows the misery of vain people is thecharacter of Mrs. Packletide in the story Mrs. Packletide\’s tiger by saki. Wesee how her vain ambition of outshining Loona Bimberton ends up in her shame, embarrassment, and financial loss. She is left with nothing but regret andremorse. The author has masterfully brought home the point that vain peoplelike her don\’t get anything useful in their lives; their vain endeavoursbear no sweet fruit. On the contrary they have to bear loss on all fronts. Sovanity is to be got rid of our character. In its place some ethics and moralvalues should be nurtured.
