A white caustic alkaline substance consisting of calcium oxide, which is obtained by heating limestone and which combines with water with the production of much heat; lime.Slaked lime is chemically calcium hydroxide, and its chemical formula is Ca(OH)2. It is a white coloured solid which is obtained when water is added to calcium oxide (CaO). Lime water on the other hand is a saturated solution of slaked lime in water.
