Character sketch of bholi
The title of the prose “Bholi” is based on the name of the girl “Sulekha” who was called “Bholi” as she was considered simpleton. She was a neglected child as she had pock marks on her whole body and stammered. Even a part of her brain was damaged when she fell off from a cot in childhood. But education transformed a “harmless dumb cow” into a”fearless and courageous girl”. For the honour of her father, Bholi accepted the marriage proposal of an unequal match, Bhishambar Nath. But when he saw Bholi\’s pock marks, he showed his real face. Bholi threw the wedding garland into fire. She didn\’t want to marry such a greedy and mean person. She told her parents that she would serve them in their old age and she would teach in the same school from where she had learnt a lot. The teacher also encouraged her by replying , “Yes, Bholi, Of course!”. The teacher was happy as if her mission was fulfilled. There was a light of satisfaction in her eyes that an artist feels when contemplating the completion of her masterpiece.
