Federalism\xa0is a form of government in which the power is divided between a central authority and various constituent units of the country.KEY FEATURES\xa0:\xa01\xa0There are two or more levels (or\xa0tiers) of government.2\xa0Different tiers of government\xa0govern the same citizens, but each tier\xa0has its own jurisdiction\xa0in specific\xa0matters of legislation, taxation and\xa0administration.3\xa0The jurisdictions of the respective\xa0levels or tiers of government are\xa0specified in the constitution.\xa04\xa0The fundamental provisions of\xa0the constitution cannot be unilaterally\xa0changed by one level of government.\xa0Such changes require the consent of\xa0both the levels of government.5\xa0Courts have the power to interpret\xa0the constitution and the powers of\xa0different levels of government.\xa06\xa0Sources of revenue for each level\xa0of government are clearly specified to\xa0ensure its financial autonomy.7 The federal system thus has\xa0dual\xa0objectives:\xa0to safeguard and promote\xa0unity of the country, while at the sametime accommodate regional diversity.
